Rates

These are US final value fees for seven common categories, plus one per-order fee. The fee is $0.30 when the order total is $10 or less, and $0.40 when it is over $10. eBay charges that amount once per order: the same buyer, one checkout, the same shipping method. It is not charged once per item. The percentage is on each item’s sale amount, including shipping the buyer paid and sales tax. Where eBay lists a $7,500 band, that cap is calculated per item, not on a combined total for several items. Use One amount for a single item, or Multiple items when several lines share one checkout. A mixed order still pays one per-order fee, while each item uses its own category rate. Categories that are not listed stay on eBay’s full schedule.

Quick reference

These seven amounts are calculated with the same formula as the tool, so the fee and the amount you keep are on the page before you type anything.

Most categories, one order, per-order fee included.
AmountFeeYou keep
$25.00$3.80$21.20
$50.00$7.20$42.80
$100.00$14.00$86.00
$500.00$68.40$431.60
$1,000.00$136.40$863.60
$2,000.00$272.40$1,727.60
$5,000.00$680.40$4,319.60

Why a small payment keeps less

On $25.00, using Most categories, the fee is $3.80 and you keep $21.20. The effective rate is 15.20%. On $500.00 the fee is $68.40, you keep $431.60, and the effective rate is 13.68%. The percentage scales with the amount. The fixed fee does not, so it takes a larger share of a small payment.

On a $10 order in most categories the fee is $1.66: 13.6% is $1.36, and the per-order fee is $0.30, so you keep $8.34. The same percentage on $100 is $13.60, plus $0.40, which is $14.00. The fixed piece does not shrink when the order does.

Questions

How much does eBay take on a $100 sale?

In most categories, $14.00 on a single $100 item in one order. That is 13.6% ($13.60) plus the $0.40 per-order fee. You keep $86.00. Enter that item’s sale amount, including shipping the buyer paid and sales tax. A $200 handbag is a different category: 15% + $0.40 is $30.40, so you keep $169.60.

What is the difference between a per-order fee and a per-item fee?

eBay’s fee is per order, not per item. One checkout from the same buyer with the same shipping method pays the $0.30 or $0.40 once, however many items are in it. Three items in one $100 order pay $0.40 once. Three separate orders would pay it three times, which is $0.80 more. In One amount, that fixed fee is part of the result for one item total. In Multiple items, the tool adds it once for the whole checkout.

How does the fee work above $7,500?

In most categories, 13.6% applies to each item’s sale amount up to $7,500, and 2.35% applies only to the portion above that on the same item. The per-order fee is added once. One item sold for $10,000 is $7,500 × 13.6% + $2,500 × 2.35% + $0.40 = $1,079.15. You keep $8,920.85. Two $4,000 items in one order use that band twice; use Multiple items instead of entering $8,000 as one amount. Books, coins, and guitars use the same per-item split, at their own rate below $7,500.

Which categories use a different rate?

Books, movies, and music are 15.3% up to $7,500 on each item, except vinyl records and the movie and music NFT categories on eBay’s table. Coins and paper money, except bullion, are 13.25% up to $7,500 per item. Women’s bags are 15% when the sale is $2,000 or less, and 9% of the whole sale when it is over $2,000. Jewelry and watches, except the watches parts category on eBay’s own table, are 15% at $5,000 or less and 9% of the whole sale above that. Guitars and basses are 6.7% up to $7,500 per item. Those bag and jewelry rates apply to the entire sale. They are not 15% on the first part and 9% on the rest.

Does it cost money to list on eBay?

The first 250 listings in a month are free in most categories. After that, the insertion fee is $0.35 per listing. Guitars and basses have no insertion fee. Athletic shoes have no insertion fee when the starting price is $150 or more. This calculator does not add insertion fees. The final value fee is charged only when the item sells.

How is a multi-item order charged?

One percentage on each item’s sale amount, at that item’s category rate, and one per-order fee for the checkout. The $7,500 tier is per item, so use Multiple items when the band matters. Selling three items to the same buyer in one order does not multiply the $0.40. If the items are in different categories, add each line in Multiple items; the tool adds the per-order fee once.

What is the athletic shoe rule?

When the sale total is $150 or more, the final value fee is 8% and eBay does not add the per-order fee on that line. A $200 sale costs $16.00, and you keep $184.00. Below $150, the fee is 13.6% plus the per-order fee, the same structure as most categories. In Multiple items, the per-order fee is skipped only when every line is athletic shoes at $150 or more; one shoe under $150, or a mix with another category, pays the per-order fee once on the order. A listing whose starting price is $150 or more also skips the insertion fee. The 8% rate is about the sale total; the free insertion is about the starting price.
