Calculate Stripe processing fees on a US card charge. Stripe’s published price for an online domestic card is 2.9% + $0.30 per successful charge settled in USD. A card number entered by hand adds 0.5%, which is the 3.4% + $0.30 rate. An international card adds 1.5%. Currency conversion adds 1% when Stripe converts the currency, and that 1% can sit on top of the international card fee. A negotiated rate in the Dashboard replaces this list. Standard payouts to a bank are free. Instant Payouts are optional and are not added here.

Quick reference

These seven amounts are calculated with the same formula as the tool, so the fee and the amount you keep are on the page before you type anything.

Domestic online card. No international card, conversion, or manual entry.

Why a small payment keeps less

On $25.00, using Card payment (settled in USD), the fee is $1.03 and you keep $23.97. The effective rate is 4.12%. On $500.00 the fee is $14.80, you keep $485.20, and the effective rate is 2.96%. The percentage scales with the amount. The fixed fee does not, so it takes a larger share of a small payment.

The $0.30 is the same on a $25 charge and a $500 charge. Hand-keyed cards, international cards, and currency conversion are checkboxes because they are added only when that charge needs them.

Questions

How do I calculate Stripe fees on a $100 card payment?

On standard US pricing, a domestic online card is 2.9% + $0.30. On $100 that is $3.20, and you keep $96.80. A card number typed in by hand adds 0.5%. The same $100 then costs $3.70, which is 3.4% + $0.30, and you keep $96.30.

How much is an international card?

Add 1.5% of the amount. A $100 charge with that fee is $4.70: $2.90 + $1.50 + $0.30. You keep $95.30. The 0.5% add-on is for a hand-keyed card, not for an international card.

How much is currency conversion?

Add 1% when Stripe converts the currency. It can apply together with the international card fee. A $100 charge with both is 2.9% + 1.5% + 1% + $0.30, which is $5.70, and you keep $94.30. If you already settle in the charge currency, leave this off.

Is there a Stripe payout fee?

A standard payout to your bank is free. Instant Payouts, if you choose them, are 1.5% of the payout with a minimum of $0.50. Connect pricing can differ. This calculator covers the card charge only, not the payout.

What happens to Stripe fees on a refund?

On standard pricing, Stripe does not charge an extra fee to refund a card payment. It also does not return the original processing fee or a currency conversion fee from that charge. Bank-transfer refunds can be different, and a custom pricing agreement can be different.

Are these the rates in my Stripe account?

They are the public US card rates on Stripe’s pricing page, checked November 4, 2026. Other countries publish different numbers. The 3.4% + $0.30 line is the hand-keyed rate, not the standard online rate. A negotiated plan in the Dashboard replaces this list.
